History of Brownwood: Less than a half hour from the official geographic center of the state, Brownwood is situated in the literal Heart of Texas. The town, located in the Pecan Valley, was founded on the banks of the Pecan Bayou river that separates it from its closest neighbor - Early. The county was named after Texas pioneer and war hero Capt.
